History.

Wild about Westhope started as an idea in 2021 through discussions between local people who enjoyed and valued the wildlife and landscape around the village of Westhope and the owner of Westhope Estate, Anne Dyer.

Anne inherited Westhope Estate in 1956 and has always tried to manage the land to benefit both local people and wildlife. She was the first in Shropshire to allow permissive access under 'The Countryside and Rights of Way Act 2000' (CROWS Act) and has managed the land with a light touch supporting rare breeds and encouraging wildlife.
Anne’s thoughts on how her legacy on land management could continue allied with the fears of local people and visitors who wanted to ensure the land was protected for the future.

In 2021 Wild about Westhope was registered as a Community Interest Company.
Since starting, the group has supported the management of a nature area known as Corfields Bank located near the centre of Westhope. The group undertakes practical conservation management, wildlife surveys, community events and has developed a management plan that will help guide future management.
